6 Month Check-Up

On Monday April 23rd we took Sawyer to his 6 month check up...and shots.  As always it's a little nerve wracking to go to these appointments because of getting shots and the possible side effects, however it is exciting too because we see how much he weighs and how tall he is.  Dr. Haider is so wonderful with Sawyer...and he always says how much of a "cool dude" Sawyer is!  Dr. Haider did say that Sawyer was very strong and extremely alert.  We laughed as Sawyer was pushing away Dr. Haider's hands when he was checking Sawyer's ears...then started grabbing the instruments being used.  We talked a lot over any questions and concerns we had and spent a lot of time discussing solid foods.  Dr. Haider said we could not feed him 5 things (peanut butter, strawberries, honey, seafood, and chocolate) and did say we could start giving some soft table foods (mashed potatoes, ice cream, cake, macaroni & cheese).  I am super nervous about feeding him solid foods mainly because of choking!  We'll see if I am ready for it...but I doubt it though.  He still gets almost all of his nutrients through the breast milk, however we have been giving him rice cereal at breakfast (with milk after) and at lunch he gets a small container of a vegetable and a tablespoon or two of a fruit.  He did receive 3 types of vaccines (1 oral and 2 shots) and he was a trooper!  He never cried!!  I was so shocked!  And daddy leaned down and said "Thank you buddy for not crying because that breaks daddy's heart"....awwwww!  Here are the pictures of our appointment.

Getting ready for all of the various measurements

Checking his temperature

Measuring the head circumference

Getting weighed

So far he weighs 17.9 lbs!

Daddy getting Sawyer's head in the right spot to measure his height.

He' measured in at 25 inches long (or short)...only the 6th percentile!  He won't be a tall man that's for sure!  But that's ok because big things come in small packages!!

Waiting for Dr. Haider to come in....doesn't Sawyer look like a GIANT!

The 2 loves of my life!!

Dr. Haider is checking Sawyer out...and he commented on how strong  Sawyer is.

I just love this picture!

Getting his ears checked....

You can tell Sawyer wasn't a fan....he kept pushing Dr. Haider's hand away

Checking in his mouth

Listening to his heart

Listening to his lungs

And all Sawyer wanted was to play with Dr. Haider's instruments!

Taking the first vaccine...of which he is not a fan of taking anything by mouth!  He had conjunctivitis last week and was on Amoxycilin   2x a day orally...and he HATED it!  F aught us tooth and nail!

Getting his 1st shot...as you can see he could care less!

Just finished the 2nd shot!  Then he sat up as if to say "what's going on?"

Daddy letting him know how good he is and how much we love him!

War wounds

Finally mommy gets to hold her little man and let her know how good he was and
of course I gave him a thousand kisses!!!

Sawyer's First FLW Trip

Isn't it funny how people change??!!  Keith and I have an awesome second job and work for FLW Outdoors putting on fishing tournaments.  We travel all over Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin etc. putting them on.  We had always said we would NEVER take a baby with us, and that the baby would stay with the grandma's so we could work and enjoy a weekend away....blah...blah.....blah!!  I laugh as I sit back and think about how silly we were for saying those things...obviously it was before Sawyer!!  Now that we have a baby we wouldn't think twice about keeping him home....he is going with us!!!  With that being said we had our first tournament last weekend in Bloomington, Indiana on beautiful Lake Monroe.  This would also be Sawyer's first trip...anywhere.  I wish I would have taken a picture of ALL THE STUFF we took (maybe next time) but I will list a few....his swing, pack and play,  bumbo seat & tray, a bag full of diapers, wipes & bibs, a bag with 8 outfits, his diaper bag, a bag with food, a cooler for milk, a bag for toys (and these items are all for Sawyer) then we each had a bag, we brought Grandma so she had her bags...and maybe some more.  Thank goodness we drive the weigh in trailer b/c that's where most everything went!
Friday night is registration for the fisherman so Keith and I are super busy!  We hold the registration at the local Wal-Mart so Grandma was able to go inside with Sawyer in the stroller and do a little shopping...ofcourse she bought a new toy and some clothes for the little guy.  They also went for a walk around the parking lot and played in the truck.
Sawyer was such a good baby for traveling all weekend!  He is always such a happy baby and just goes with the flow.  Maybe for the next tournament we can downsize all of the items we took....we'll see!
Here are just a few pics from the weekend....

Sawyer was "driving" the big truck and trailer...and then he had to "taste" the steering wheel!

Traveling is hard work!  Taking a nice nap with daddy...priceless!

How sweet is this?!

Well.....we did have some excitement too...it rained like crazy all day on Saturday and when everything was packed up and ready to haul out...the mud decided otherwise!  Our truck and trailer were stuck!  The truck was sliding to the side of the hill...the dangerous side...everytime Keith would step on the gas!  The motor would rev and the tires wold slide and dig deeper into the muddy mess!  These have always been the part of the trips that make me nervous...so needless to say I couldn't watch as all of the "excitement" was going on...I stood behind the tree with my ears plugged.  It took about 30-45 minutes until the truck and trailer were out...thanks to the hard work of Keith and our other FLW employees and the trusty ol' tow rope and a pull from the suburban!  Needless to say I was extremely relieved to be back on the road again!

Taking a break at  a local gas station to stretch and play...and a diaper change too (for Sawyer that is...lol!!

Here he is driving again....Hope he doesn't mind having to wait a few more years until he can "really" drive!

Kasey Photography

I am addicted to taking pictures of Sawyer and having his pictures taken by our friend Kasey.  She took his newborn shots, Valentines Day photos as well as his Easter/Spring pictures as well.  I love having his picture taken and looking at all of his changes over the last 5 1/2 months!  I am posting some pictures of all three photo shoots.  Enjoy~
